I went over to North Foreland to see all my old friends and Steven was home on leave too. Finally on September 20th I arrived at Windermere in the Lake District to begin my OCTU course. I was sharing a room in a pre-war hotel with Nancy Beazley, Elaine Barnes and Eileen Haigh.
During September we were put through our paces as to what we could expect as officers, various rules and regulations etc. We were measured for our uniforms from Moss Bros in London on October 5th, had photos taken; learnt to drill a troop; play hockey; walked in the Fells and Dells of the Lake District. Did duty cadets; eventually arriving at Turkey Court on November 14th

I had done quite well on the course we had one failure, May Knox. She had a BSc but had no PR qualities. I had asked for Scampton, 5 Group. This was the famous Dam Buster Sqdn and a part of Pathfinder Force. It was definitely a “Plum” posting.
